Don Partridge - King of the Buskers - Archive






Nice archive footage of the late Don Partridge, King of the Buskers, from the Swedish site svt.se recounting how Stockholm came to introduce a new law on busking, the "lex Partridge". See the original high quality version at svt.se The interview with Don was by Liselott Persson in August 2005 and the video was first published in September 2005 on a News Program called "ABC" on Swedish Television. It needs the BBC IPLAYER so I'm not sure if it's accessible outside UK www.bbc.co.uk Like hundreds of others I have small personal memories of Don and this year kept thinking I should go see him next time I'm in Sussex but put it off til too late. I first met him at The Shades coffee bar / folk club in Reading in 1964 and he taught me words/chords to the tongue twisting music-hall song "What I Want is a Proper Cup of Coffee" by Weston & Lee. He was extremely funny and a spell-binding storyteller going off at surreal tangents and suddenly stopping to sing a song.
